Aidan, I have a question for you. I made a couple of dozen jars of pickles from an ancient family recipe. My mom says she thinks our recipe is Kosher...what exactly makes a pickle Kosher? Thanks!
Cheri: There is an easy answer and a complicated answer.
The easy answer? Garlic.
The complicated answer is that, in order to be hallachically kosher the pickles must be made with ingredients, utensils, and eauipment which is certified as kosher under the supervision of a qualified rabbi.
Thank you Aidan. My pickles have lots and lots of garlic. I always wondered how a bunch of Catholic/Mormon/non-denomination-s could make kosher pickles. Now I know....if I were Jewish and kept kosher then there'd be a fighting chance at them being kosher. All I know is they're the best pickles I've ever had (my great grandma's recipe).
