Yes We Did!

YES WE DID!

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Give thanks to the Lord, for G-d is good and His mercies endure forever."

This victory is not the end. It is the beginning. Everyone who worked to send Senator Obama to the White House must now commit themselves to working with him to bring the change this country has demanded.

More tomorrow. I'm more tired and more moved than I can find words to express.

Speaking for myself and (I think I can be permitted) for the rest of the world who has been watching your country with impatience and intense hope for the past year, I will say this:

THIS is the America we've always dreamed we'd see. A proud, strong, open-minded, hopeful, embracing, self-aware and intelligent country displaying its respect and compassion for others and its commitment to making itself and the rest of the world a better place. A true leader.

I've always chafed at the expression, because it's so often used by the wrong people as a way of justifying ways of doing things that the rest of the world deems unsavory, but today I can say it with total conviction:

God Bless You. God Bless America.

Today, you make us all want to be better people. Not just for electing a member of one of your most oppressed minorities, but for electing one who so graciously and elegantly displays the good qualities of your country.

Ok, I'm getting off my soapbox, now. Anyone got a tissue I can obliterate?
