A (no spoiler) Rant about Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince

I don't understand why, if they have to take things from the book out because of time, they would add an entire scene that wasn't in the book.

I don't understand why they would make characters like Neville and Luna nothing more than walk-on roles.

I don't understand why they don't explore all of the memories.

I don't understand how the Patel twins suddenly became white.

I don't understand what happened to the members of the Order. It's like they were all on holiday in Majorca. For the whole year.

I think they beefed up Helena Bonham Carter's role just to justify the amount of money they were paying her.

And Fenrir Greyback. He looked more like a pedophile than a werewolf.

There. I'm done. For now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Just saw it today with my parents as we are all Potter fans, but was really bothered by the same things as you. I keep wondering why I go when I just nitpick the things they should have included. What I really wonder is why I'm going to go see the last one, but I will. Glutton for punishment I guess!

In answer to your questions...it's

MAGIC! lol

Haven't seen the film yet but can't wait. I wasn't impressed with the last film either. I hope with the final book being made into 2 films that they will do a better job.

I agree with you 100%.I did enjoy the film -saw it twice in the first two days of release but having read many other fans reviews I notice that I'm not alone in wondering where all of the memories relating to Voldemort (oh darn I've typed his name aloud!) and Snape disappeared to.
Neville is central to Voldemorts downfall in book seven and I really missed him in this book..
Where are the Dursleys?...
Where's the fantastic moment when Ginny runs up to Harry after Grifindor win at Quidditch?.
The next movie had better address these things and be more truthful to the book or I'll be forced to send a screaming letter to the scriptwriters.

Delurking to say:

YES! Exactly! The additional scenes really bugged me, given the lack of the Order. Wtf?

Also - you're a lovely knitter who knits lovely things while making wry political commentary. Carry on.

Just a nitpick. The Patil twins are played by the same actresses as before. There's another set of twins (who aren't named, according to imdb) and perhaps you thought they were the Patil sisters?

I just came back from seeing the movie (I must be the last one to see it)and I agree with you 100%, especially about Luna and Neville, who are such important characters.
