DON'T TELL MY WIFE

I couldn't help myself. It really isn't my fault -- it's an addiction. Really. I saw this:

at this lovely site, which I found while perusing that Demon Ravlery. I tried not to buy any. I really did. As tempting as it was, I navigated my little self away several times. I just walked away, humming Eartha Kitt's "Get Thee Behind Me Satan" to myself and reminding myself that the first step is to admit I am powerless over lace yarn and that my stash has become unmanageable.

And then -- also on Ravelry -- I saw the Luna Moth Shawl:

The detail shot was even better!

Then I started thinking about how lovely that shawl would be in silver silk. About then I must have blacked out, because the next thing I know, there is a receipt in my e-mail for 2 cones (2500 yards) of heavy laceweight silver silk yarn.

I'm trying to figure out if there is some way I can blame this on my wife.

Just tell her you did it for her. After all, who will be wearing the lace?

Oh, I think Myfanwe would rather have elective surgery without benefit of anesthesia than EVER wear lace. She is not a girly girl.

This one will be for my friend, nancy, who IS a girly girl and will appreciate it.

You blacked out? Obviously an alien abduction. Probably used you in some weird yarn buying experiment. I shutter to think about what could have happened if they had kept you longer .....

The Luna Moth will look gorgeous in that yarn! Can't wait to see you cast on.

Clearly your wife has been neglecting your silk laceweight needs..and believe me, they ARE needs!! It's no wonder you had to take matters into your own hands.

I knit the Luna Moth Shawl in Fleece Artist Italian silk, and it is stunning. It was my first lace shawl. I only used 1 skein, 350m? as it was all I had, and it came out at about 1&1/2m across the top and 1m from the top down. Just the right size for me :) Can't wait to see yours.

Oh, bad, bad Aidan! I saw your post and I went to colourmart and I looked at the silk yarns and... well, you can guess what happened.

Good luck on your Luna Moth!

Well, since this post was on my BD & I spend most of my time knitting for the grands, you could knit that lovely Luna Moth Shawl for me. I just joined a Yahoo shawl KAL group - hoping that will get me to finally knit one for myself (all previous efforts have been gifted). I live in OP & found you thru the Ravelry Chicago Group. I retired 3 years ago after working as a paralegal for SSA - what exciting lives we lead! I am also not a girly girl but think that shawls look great with casual clothes.
